Meta-analysis Of Voice Outcomes After Steroid Injection On Benign Vocal Fold Lesions

Objective:Emerging literature which had documented the potential usefulness of vocal fold steroid injection(VFSI),to develop a meta-analysis.Method:PubMed,EMBASE,CNKI and Wangfang database were searched using the keyword.A total of 7 published studies were characterized based on our keyword search.The chi-square based I~2-statistic test was performed to evaluate possible heterogeneity across the studies.The corresponding effect model was selected according to heterogeneity test results.For continuous data,results were expressed as Mean Difference(MD)and 95%confidence interval(95%CI).Result:Meta-analysis demonstrated a significant increase in Maximal Phonation Time and decrease in Jitter after VFSI.No significant differences in Voice Handicap Index(VHI),shimmer were found between After steroid injection vs.Before steroid injection of benign vocal fold disorders.Conclusion:The results from this meta-analysis support that VFSI has advantages in terms of voice quality.However,we need more studies with longer follow-up periods to validate our findings.
