| PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of application of lysozyme contained toothpaste in the prevention and remission of minor recurrent aphthous stomatitis(MiRAS).METHODS: A randomized,parallel-controlled,double-blind,clinical trial was performed.36 subjects in the treatment group and 35 subjects in the control group fulfilled the study. The provided toothpastes was applied 2 times per day in the morning and evening for 12 weeks. When MiRAS attacted, the toothpaste was wiped onto the ulcers.Pain level was recorded every day.RESULTS: There was no significant difference(p>0.05)between the pain level for the treatment group(3.00±1.66)and the control group(2.66±1.51).The average healing days was significantly reduced(p<0.01)in the treatment group(5.66±2.02)compared with the control group(7.46±2.69).The recurrent frequency was reduced(p<0.05)in the treatment group(3.06±1.48)compared with the control group(4.40±2.89).No obvious side effects were observed. Conclusions: Bio-enzyme toothpaste was effective in promoting healing and reducing recurrent frequency without significant side effects in the treatment of MiRAS.CONCLUSIONS: Bio-enzyme toothpaste was effective in promoting healing and reducing recurrent frequency without significant side effects in the treatment of MiRAS. |
