| Objective: On the basis of combining the research status of Cluster-C personality disorders(PDs)in college students and the research progress of contingent self-esteem,with clinical observation of that students, the present study atttempts to explore the relationship between Cluster-C PDs and contingent self-esteem,to provide empirical evidence and a new perspective for pathological research and clinical intervention of Cluster-C PDs.To explore the following questions:(1)Comparing the contingent self-esteem,explicit self-esteem,implicit self-esteem and of the Cluster-C PDs students and the health control group(HC)students;(2)Exploring the path relationship of contingent self-esteem between Cluster-C PDs and explicit self-esteem,implicit self-esteem;(3)To explore and compare the role of contingent self-esteem and explicit self-esteem,implicit self-esteem in the defensiveness, negative emotions of Cluster-C PDs positive college students and HC after experiencing the threat of self-esteem.Methods: First,1,000 Personality Disorder Questionnaire for CCMD-2-R(PDQC)were issued at a university in Guangdong Province. Then, using the Contingent Self-esteem Scale(CSS),the Contingencies of Self-Worth Scale(CSWS),the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale(RSES),and the IAT Measurement Program measured the explicit self-esteem,implicit self-esteem,contingent self-esteem and contingencies of self-worth of the 181 college students. Finally, the differences in self-esteem between Cluster-C PDs positive students and HC were compared, and the relationship between various self-esteem and Cluster-C PDs tendencies was explored.Next, through the 2500 PDQC,102 Cluster-C PDs positive college students and 62 HC were screened and invited to participate in the experiment. The CSS,CSWS,RSES and IAT Measurement Program were used to measure the explicit self-esteem,implicit self-esteem,contingent self-esteem and contingencies of self-worth in the Cluster-C PDs positive college students and HC,to examine the different role of the various types of self-esteem in defensiveness and negative emotions after experiment, separately in Cluster-C PDs positive college students and HC.Data statistics and analysis were implemented using Excel and SPSS 21.0.Results:(1)The contingent self-esteem score(p<0.01)and others’ approval score(p<0.001)of the HC were significantly lower than that of the DPD positive group, the APD positive group, and the comorbid PD positive group. In addition, the HC and the Cluster-C PDs positive college students had significant differences at competencies, appearance, and academic ability.(2)There was a statistically significant negative correlation between explicit self-esteem and cluster-C PD scores(p<0.01),but the relationships between cluster-C PD scores and contingent self-esteem(p<0.01),competencies(p<0.01),appearance(p<0.05),academic ability(p<0.05),others’ approval(p<0.01)were positive.(3)Contingent self-esteem and Others’ approval are completely mediating between explicit self-esteem and Cluster-C PDs scores;appearance plays a partial intermediary role between explicit self-esteem and Cluster-C PDs score;mediating effect accounts for total effect was 47.82%,52.17%,and 21.74%,respectively.(4)In the case of low self-esteem threat, there was no significant difference in the defensiveness and negative emotion between the HC and the experimental group. In the case of high self-esteem threat, the defensiveness of the HC was significantly higher than that of the experimental group(t=2.01,p<0.05).(5)Competencies moderates the effect of self-esteem threat on general negative emotion in the experimental group(F=9.19,p<0.001);contingent self-esteem moderates the effect of self-esteem threat on self-negative emotion in the HC(F=10.89,p<0.001));traditional value moderates the effect of threat on defensiveness in the experimental group(F=23.32,p<0.001).Conclusions:(1)College students with high contingent self-esteem,competencies,appearance,academic ability or others’ approval are more likely to have Cluster-C PDs symptoms. There is a positive correlation among contingent self-esteem,contingencies of self-worth and Cluster-C PDs symptoms.(2)Others’ approval and contingent self-esteem full mediated the association between explicit self-esteem and Cluster-C PDs scores, respectively.Appearance partially mediated the association between explicit self-esteem and Cluster-C PDs scores.(3)Competencies in Cluster-C PDs positive college students moderate the effect of self-esteem threat on general negative emotion.Contingent self-esteem moderates the effect of self-esteem threat on self-negative emotion in the HC;traditional value moderates the effect of threat on defensiveness in the experimental group. |
