Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of mind-map health education on the readiness of patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer, and provide a basis for improving the level of preparation for discharge of patients and the quality of care during hospitalization. Methods In order to ensure the effectiveness of the intervention, the subjects from December 2018 to February 2019 were included in the control group, and the subjects from March 2019 to May 2019 were included in the intervention group. The control group adopted the traditional perioperative health education model, and the intervention group added a mind-map for health education on this basis. The explanation of the content of the mind map includes four stages: the day of admission, the day before the operation, the day after the operation to the third day after the operation, and the day of discharge. The central word is gastric cancer, and the first-level branches are admission education, disease knowledge, preoperative examination, preoperative diet, precautions on the day of surgery, postoperative accelerated recovery, postoperative complications, postoperative diet, and discharge guidance.Diverge to the secondary and tertiary branches. The responsible nurse fills in the general postoperative disease survey form for the patient every day,and the bed doctor confirms that the patient meets the discharge standards after the ward rounds and guides the patient to fill out the discharge preparation scale and general self-efficacy scale on the day of discharge. The general postoperative situation, readiness for discharge and general self-efficacy of the two groups of patients were compared. At the same time, the department nurses were given a theoretical training examination before and after the mind-map content training, and the content of the assessment was related to gastric cancer. After the patient is discharged from the hospital,in the department follow-up system, continue to observe the patient’s re-admission after discharge and complete the data. The data was entered using Epidata3.1 software, and SPSS22.0 was used for statistical analysis.Results(1)General information: There was no statistical difference between the two groups in terms of gender, education level, medical insurance, surgical methods, age, tumor size(P>0.05).Patient’s disease-related data: the intervention group patients’ first time of postoperative exhaustion, first time of getting out of bed, first time of drinking water after operation, and postoperative hospitalization days were 2.07 ± 0.429(days),1.36±0.613(days),3.28±1.091(days),7.44±1.816(days),the time of the first postoperative exhaustion, the first time of getting out of bed,the first time of drinking water, and the postoperative hospitalization days of the control group were3.82±0.608(days),2.60±0.612(days),4.34±0.429(days),11.02±2.072(days),the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).(2)After the intervention of mind-map for gastric cancer patients’ discharge readiness, the intervention group’s own condition, disease knowledge, and available social support scores were 25.29 ± 2.390(Points),39.49 ± 5.467(Points),33.89 ±4.608(Points),the control group’s own status, disease knowledge, and available social support scores were 20.51±2.370(points),31.47±3.415(points),29.04±3,140(points),the difference between the two groups was statistically significant.(3)There is no difference in the general self-efficacy score between the intervention group and the control group before intervention(P>0.05).After applying the mind-map,the general self-efficacy score of the intervention group was 35.40±2.060(points),and the general self-efficacy score of the control group It was 28.82±2.815(points),the intervention group score was significantly better than the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(4)In the telephone follow-up system after discharge, the intervention group and the control group were followed up every 10 days within one month,1 patient in the intervention group was re-admission to the hospital, and 8 patients in the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions Mind-map health education is applied to patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastric cancer surgery, which improves the patient’s level of preparation for discharge from the hospital, shortens the average hospital stay, and improves the general self-efficacy of patients during hospitalization. At the same time, nurses use mind-map to provide patients with a convenient and effective mnemonic tool, especially for elderly patients, which can facilitate them to get rid of the tedious paper health education brochures and make it easier to understand the entire disease-related knowledge.
