Grammar teaching is an integral part in modern foreign language teaching.However,many students are required to learn target grammar by mechanically memorizing and practicing,which makes more students lose the interest and motivation of grammar learning.Therefore,it is essential for us to find a relevant language teaching method which not only helps students to master the grammatical knowledge and structures systematically but also promotes students' motivation of grammar learning.Activity-based Approach,put forward by Hammer(1986),can integrate the language structures and language meanings together,which not only helps students master systematical grammar knowledge but also promotes students' motivation of grammar learning Based on the related study on Activity-based Approach,this study has two fundamental purposes: one is intended to investigate the effectiveness of Activity-based Approach on the teaching of English grammar in senior high school;The other is intended to make a investigation of whether the participants' proficiency of English grammar has been promoted by using Activity-based Approach.In accordance with the two experimental purposes,the study puts forward to two hypotheses and attempts to verify the effectiveness of them:1)The Activity-based Approach can promote learners' motivation of grammar learning;2)The Activities-based Approach in Teaching grammar can improve learners' acquisition of English attributive clause.The teaching experiment which lasts about 2 weeks is carried out in two parallel classes of one senior high school in Gansu province.In the process of experiment,one class is chosen as the controlled class and this class has been taught via the traditional teaching method;the other is chosen as the experimental class,which is taught by Activity-based approach.After the research of application,the data that have been collected from the questionnaire and paper-test will be analyzed.The change of students' motivation of grammar learning in experimental class between pre-experiment and post-experiment can be reflected in the questionnaire.The change of students' proficiency of grammar learning in experimental class between pre-experiment and post-experiment can be reflected in paper-test.The experiment indicates that compared with the traditional teaching method,the Activity-based Approach can promote the students' motivation of learning attributive clause and improve their proficiency of attributive clause by organizing varieties of colorful and effective activities.To sum up,the Activity-based Approach provide us with the grammar teaching method from the new perspective and it is more efficient and effective in the process of grammar teaching in senior high school.
