This paper reports a case study of English attributive clause teaching by three teachers in two senior high schools,aiming to analyze these teachers'understanding and application of three dimensions of grammar put forward in Curriculum Standards for Senior High School English(2017).Three dimensions of grammar refers to grammar teaching from the aspects of form,meaning and use.Three lessons of attributive clauses were taken as teaching cases to be analyzed and three teachers who conducted these three lessons were taken as subjects to be interviewed.The paper addressed two research questions,the first one is which dimension is paid more attention to by these teachers.The second one is three teachers'understanding and attitude toward three dimensions of grammar.This thesis analyzed the learning activities of these three grammar lessons from the aspects of activity type,purpose and discourses between teachers and students,and then transcribed and demonstrated them.Based on the research results,the paper shows the implementation situation of three dimensions of grammar theory in the actual classroom.The research results showed that different teachers possessed different perspectives on grammar teaching,and the focus of grammar classroom activities was not the same.In terms of the three grammar lessons,only one reflected the teaching mode of three dimensions of grammar.The other two mainly focused on mastering the form of attributive clauses.As for three dimensions of grammar,the three interviewed teachers also put forward their own questions and views.The understanding from one interviewee was in accord with the explanation from Larson-Freeman and the principles from the Curriculum Standard for Senior High School English(2017).But the other one put forward that the theory significance of the three dimensions of grammar is more important than its practical significance.It obviously can be seen that the understandings and attitudes toward the three dimensions of grammar are different from different teachers.Therefore,the reason for different understandings and attitudes toward the three dimensions of grammar from senior high school English teachers will be explored in future study.
