A Report On Translation Practice Of The Tender Of Contract T206 For Construction Of Woodlands Section Tunnel Of Thomson Line

The Tender of Contract T206 compiled by Singapore Land Transport Authority is the one to bid for the construction of Woodlands Section Tunnel of Singapore Thomson Line.The tender is written in English,covering specific items of the construction process.With well-constructed framework,the tender is neat,concise and compact.Considering that its writing manner is in accordance with tender writing norms,Tianjin Metro Group Co.,Ltd.,as a professional metro company,has decided to entrust the author to translate the English version of the Tender of Contract T206 into Chinese one for later reference.This practice report was just completed on the basis of the translation of the Tender of Contract T206 for construction of Woodlands Section Tunnel of Thomson Line.The report is divided into four parts: The first part begins with the introduction of the background and purpose of translation task,followed by the description of the text content,translation brief and text features.The second part describes the pre-translation work,translation process and proofreading of finished translation.In this part,the author especially focuses on the analysis of translation brief and original text,and based on the analysis,chooses the appropriate translation strategy.In the third part,with the illustration of the examples selected from the translation practice,the author discusses the methods and techniques adopted in translation process.Through the discussion,the author has found that instrumental translation strategy is adopted for better translation of the texts such as tender and contract.Under the guidance of the instrumental translation strategy,in dealing with lexical terms,the translator should respectively employ translation techniques including amplification,omission,combination and conversion of part of speech.In dealing with syntactic sentences,the translator should respectively adopt translation techniques such as mutual transformation of active and passive voice,mutual conversion of an affirmative and negative expression,rearrangement of sentence order,sentence division and sentence combination.The final part of the report contains the summary and reflection of this translation practice.It is hoped that this translation practice report will be a reference for further translation of the contract and tender.
