A Report On Mock Interpretation Of 2017 Industrial Clusters Seminar

With the fast development and opening up of Chinese economy,more and more international conferences are carried out in China.From July to August,the author attended "2017 Seminar on the Development of Industrial Clusters for Southeast Asian Countries" organized by National Development and Reform Commission,and served as English interpreter.Based on the speeches of the seminar,a mock interpretation was carried out by the author.The Interpretative Theory of Translation considers that interpreters should focus on the equivalence of the meaning.Interpreters cannot do a word-to-word translation,but re-express the message in accordance with the manner of the target language.Interpreters should translate in an accurate and faithful way.The theory claims that the Faithfulness Principle should be the criterion to evaluate the quality of interpretation.To be more specific,interpreters should be faithful to speakers,target languages and the audienceThe purpose of this report is analyzing the strategies to achieve the faithfulness of interpretation from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory,based on the speeches of the mock interpretation.This thesis first introduces the interpretation task and its difficulties,then introduces the Interpretive Theory of Translation and Faithfulness Principle,and finally concludes four translation strategies to achieve faithfulness.
