| English,as an international language,is becoming more and more vital in people’s life.And one’s English level in senior high school stage has a great effect on the quality of one’s lifelong English education.However,many problems,such as the single teaching methods,the old thoughts,the oppressive atmosphere and so on,cause students’ low study interest and low learning capacity existing in the actual senior high school English teaching.It is under this background that the Guided Learning Plan Mode comes into being,which places learning before teaching and stress the students’ central position.However,most of the studies and applications of the mode are used in the urban middle schools English teaching.There have been few applications and studies on how to apply the mode in English teaching in rural senior high schools.The thesis applies the guided learning plan mode in English reading teaching in rural senior high school to witness the effects of the mode and tries to answer the following two questions:1.Is the guided learning plan teaching mode effective in improving students’ achievements in English reading in rural senior high school?2.Can the guided learning plan teaching mode improve students’ interest towards English reading in rural senior high school?An experiment was carried out for four months in two parallel classes in Grade One in the Xinbin Second Senior High School so as to give answers to these questions.There were 42 students in the experimental class(EC),and 43 students in the control lass(CC).Most of them came from rural families and had never known the mode before.The only difference was that the EC was taught with the guided learning plan teaching mode,but the CC was taught with the traditional method.Questionnaires,interview,tests and SPSS were used to help the experiment.Before the experiment,a pre-test was given to these students,the results of which provided the similar level of these two classes in English reading,so the experiment could be continued.Then the students were given two questionnaires at the beginning of the experiment and the end of the experiment to test whether their interest had changed after four-month study.An interview was given to the EC separately to get their ideas about the guided learning plan.At last,the data obtained from the experiment was analyzed by SPSS.The results showed that rural senior high school students’ English reading achievements can be improved through applying the guided learning plan mode.And their interest towards English reading was also promoted. |
