The Anchored Instruction is an important teaching model based on the theory of constructivism.It requires teaching to be based on infectious events or real problems.It is a process through the communication and interactions among students,with the active learning,generating learning,and experience of students to identify the goals,propose goals,and achieve goals.It consists of five steps: creating situations,identifying problems,independent learning,collaborative learning,and evaluation.As one of the more mature teaching models under the constructivism theory,it should be applied in the English reading teaching at senior high school to improve middle school students? reading ability and exert its proper value.The author summarizes the literature about the Anchored Instruction and applies it to the reading teaching at senior high school to solve the following two questions:(1)Can Anchored Instruction improve students? reading interest?(2)Can Anchored Instruction develop students? reading strategies?This thesis discusses the application of Anchored Instruction in the teaching of English reading at a senior high school in China.Based on the principles of constructivism and humanistic theory,this thesis uses questionnaires,classroom observation,and experiment to explore the above research questions.The subjects of the thesis are students of class 4 and class 6 of grade one in Tianshui Changcheng Middle School.The teaching content is the book 1 and book 2 of New Senior English Book for China students.The same teacher teaches both classes.Before the experiment,after the first-month exam of Changcheng Middle School,the author first uses questionnaire to learn about the current situation of all the students in grade one about English reading and finds that there are some problems in students? English reading.Secondly,the author chooses experimental class and control class to participate in this experiment.In the experimental class,Anchored Instruction is used for English reading teaching.In the reading class,videos related to teaching contents are used to provide students with macro contexts and background knowledge.It reduces the difficulty of reading and helps students establish learning confidence,completes learning tasks and solves problems.The traditional teaching model is used in the control class,it emphasize the grammar knowledge.After fifteen weeks? experiment,the author uses another questionnaire and classroom observation to analyze the results again.From students? classroom performance and questionnaire results,teachers and students generally give higher remarks to the implementation of the Anchored Instruction.Finally,the final exam scores are analyzed by SPSS 23.0.The results shows that the posttest score of the experimental class is higher than the posttest score of the control class.From the perspective of the application effect of the Anchored Instruction,applying it to the English reading teaching can reduce the difficulty of reading,increase students? reading interest,and help students obtain information through effective reading strategies.Its advantages can not only improve students? reading interest and train their reading strategies,but also can develop students? ability to learn independently,help them develop good study habits to become active readers,and ultimately improve students? ability to comprehensively use English and establish their self-confidence to learn English.
