Study On Fuzzy Words Translation Of Huangdi Neijing From The Perspective Of Translation As Adaptation And Selection

The "fuzzy thinking" of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),expressed in the fuzzy words,is the result of deep philosophical foundation and rich cultural connotation.Huangdi Neijing,a monument in the development of TCM,laid the foundation of the theoretical system of TCM.Up to now,with the joint efforts of scholars both at home and abroad,15 English versions of Neijing have come into being.Research on its English translations has been carried on positively.There are variety of fuzzy forms in Neijing.The purpose of the study is to analyze the fuzzy words of Neijing,and to discuss the corresponding translation methods under the guidance of translation as adaptation and selection theory.On the basis of ecology,the translation as adaptation and selection focuses on translators'giving full play of the subjective initiative,selectively adapting to the corresponding translation ecological environment,choosing the appropriate translation strategy to realize the multidimensional adaptive conversion,including the language dimension,the cultural dimension as well as the communicative dimension in the target language.Thus,the best translation with the corresponding degree of holistic adaption and selection will be created.Recently,some scholars combined both of them based on the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine culture,and some progress has been made.The theory has been applied preliminarily in the field of TCM terms translation,which shows the possibility of the organic combination of translation as adaption and selection and the English translation of the classics of TCM.In this paper,the first thirty chapters of Neijing were to be as the range of choice,and the three kinds of fuzzy words,namely lingual rhetoric,imaginary numerals and euphemism,were singled out as the research object based on systematic sampling.The number of the fuzzy words,such as the lingual rhetoric,imaginary numerals and euphemism was selected by hand,and the sample was selected by systematic sampling.The English versions of Neijing,translated respectively by Li Zhaoguo,Veith and Wu father and son,were used for the corresponding fuzzy words translation analysis.Under the guidance of translation as adaption and selection,the fuzzy words of the lingual rhetoric,imaginary numerals and euphemism were contrasted and analyzed as well as induced and concluded,by which the systematic and appropriate translation strategies and methods were to be extracted and integrated to provide a new perspective for the fuzzy words translation of TCM.
