A Report On C-E Translation Of Long Sentences In Economic And Trade Texts

The enhancement of economic globalization tendency enables China to strengthen its economic interaction with the world economy.Economic and trade texts play an indispensable role in the economic communication between China and the world.However,there are differences between Chinese and English in terms of the utilization of part of speech and the sentence pattern.Therefore,it is imperative for the author to understand the differences between Chinese and English so as to better present the meaning and connotation of the source text.This is a translation practice report on the English translation of a Chinese economic and trade text.The author,taking long sentences from Strategic Evaluation Chapter II as the study object,gives analysis and conclusions on this translation practice.It is frequent to find professional terminologies,verbs or verb phrases,and parallel structures in Chinese economic and trade texts.Positive voice and non-subject sentences are also utilized in such texts.However,English economic and trade texts prefer nouns and noun phrases.Instead of making non-subject sentences or using positive voice,there-be sentence pattern and passive voice are usually adopted in English.Therefore,it is necessary to pay special attention to the differences between Chinese and English during the translation process of long sentences,so as to ensure the accuracy of the translated work.Based on the characteristics of the Chinese long sentences in economic and trade texts,the author translates the Chinese economic text in terms of the conversion in part of speech and the change of sentence pattern.As there are differences in the utilization of part of speech between the English and Chinese long sentences,the author is required to carry out conversion in part of speech and adjusts the sentence structure with suitable translation skills including division,reconstruction and combination,so as to make the translated work readable.While carrying out the English translation of Chinese long sentences,the author is also supposed to add subjects or change the sentence pattern of long sentences without subjects or change the positive voice into the passive one.By using case analysis,the author is able to draw conclusions on the English translation skills of Chinese long sentences in economic and trade texts,which improves her understanding of the differences between Chinese and English,and strengthens the translation quality.
