As periodic reports sent by US consuls abroad to the US government about the commercial and economic development of the host country,American Consular Reports includes correspondences,documents,trade records,daily work records and briefs between US consulates in China and the US government and other consulates.These reports were later collected in the archives of the US Department of State,becoming an important part of US diplomatic archives.Taking the Daily Consular and Trade Reports(excerpt)about economic and trade development of Northeast China from 1910 to 1930 as the source text,this thesis provides a historical valuable reference for the study of economic and trade development in Northeast China and the trade expansion of the US in Northeast China in modern times.The practical text is an economic and historical document,with professional characteristics of both economic and trade texts and historical texts.The former is represented by rigorous expressions and complex sentences,and the latter is represented by complex historical,political and social background.The translation difficulties of the practical text are manifested in lexical,syntactic and discoursal levels.Under the guidance of communication translation theory,this report uses corresponding translation strategies to solve the translation problems in the Chinese translation of economic and historical documents,aiming to improve the translation quality and reproduce the accuracy of the historical vocabulary translation,the rigor of logical thinking,and the completeness of text information.To solve the problems of characterized historical words,the translation strategy of adding definitions inside and outside the text is adopted to achieve the accuracy of historical vocabulary interpretation.To solve the problem of complicated sentence structures and implicit logical relationships,the translation strategy of splitting,synthesis and logical explicating is adopted to reconstruct sentences and reproduce the clarity of internal sentence logic.To solve the problem of the difficulties in understanding and expression caused by complex background,and incomplete context,the translation strategy of enhancing context is adopted to supplement relevant contextual information and historical background information to reproduce the completeness and objectivity of historical information.This translation practice verifies the effect of strategies guided by the communication translation theory in economic and historical text The strategies adopted in this practice report are expected to be of valuable reference for Chinese translation of similar type of texts.
