Reading comprehension is the key module of English teaching.Reading is the main way of language input while you are learning English.During English reading,good reading skills can provide a solid foundation for the essay understanding.Currently,people pay more and more attention to the problems and improvement of reading skills in the process of English learning.In China,the English foundation of senior high school students is not strong.When they are in primary school and junior high school,most teachers adopt the cramming method of teaching.In this teaching environment,students can not handle the elementary knowledge of English,which makes them lack of initiative.The students depend on the teachers' guidance and illustrations overly when they conduct the learning tasks of structural analysis,words explaining and keynote analysis of the discourse.In this situation,students' objective of learning English is to pass the exams instead of achieving the practical application of English.In the 1980s,the Task-based Approach became popular in western countries.Its appearance broke the traditional mode of teaching.Task-based Approach has been accepted and adopted gradually by the majority of high school teachers in China.Task-based Approach advocates that students should learn through practicing and apply the knowledge into practice.The main objective of Task-based Approach is to make students finish the tasks through interaction and improve comprehensive abilities of English learning.Task-based Approach has been developed constantly.To some extent,the rationality and feasibility of Task-based Approach have been proved by scholars and teachers all over the world.Chinese scholars have been broadening the research scope of Task-based Approach widely.In addition,there are more and more applications of Task-based Approach in teaching process.The object of the study is the author's students of Class 17 in Qianjiang Xinhua Senior High School,Chongqing.The material of the study is NEW SENIOR ENGLISH FOR CHINA STUDENT'S BOOK bookl and book2.This thesis introduced the Task-based Approach to English class in senior high school,and summed up the effective English teaching methods in English teaching process.The processes of this thesis are as follows.By using the theory "learning by doing",class observation and analysis of students' grades,the thesis aims to explore this question:after the author has conducted the Task-based Approach in Senior High School English reading class for five months,will the grades of the students in the experiment class be improved?After the author compared the results of two tests,the results of research show that conducting the Task-based Approach in Senior High School English Reading class makes the reading grades of students improve a lot.What we obtained from this study attaches importance to the improvement of Senior High School students' English reading skills.
