| As is known to us all,ability of listening,speaking,reading and writing is essential for grasping a foreign language proficiently.As an indispensable aspect in learning a foreign language,reading is an important way to acquire textual information and improve language ability.Furthermore,English reading is the core of English teaching as well as the main approach to cultivate students’ English learning ability.However,traditional English reading teaching is teacher-centered emphasizing the absolute authority of the teacher.In English reading class,teachers focus more on the vocabulary and linguistic knowledge of reading materials and barely allow students to think independently and communicate with each other,resulting in passively learning knowledge for students.Their enthusiasm and initiative fail to be developed sufficiently,leading to severe situation of English reading teaching.To effectively solve the problems in junior high school English reading teaching,the research is based on Constructivism theory,aimed at exploring how to carry on junior high school English reading teaching guided by Constructivism learning theory,and to prove its rationality.To apply Constructivism theory to junior high school English reading teaching,the author has designed an empirical teaching research and implemented it in two classes in Grade 7 of Ping’an No.3 Middle School.The experimental class(EC)and control class(CC)both have 51 students.In the beginning,the author used questionnaires to know the English reading habits and skills of the two classes.During the experiment,the author compared the performances of two classes in pretest and post-test.At the end of the experiment,the author randomly interviewed some students in EC to collect their opinions on this new reading teaching method.The research shows that by using Constructivism theory,students’ attitudes towards English reading have changed positively and their interests in English reading have been enhanced.The most significant difference is that students master different reading skills to improve their reading ability,which in turn effectively promotes English reading teaching.However,when putting Constructivism into practice,teachers shouldn’t ignore the actual teaching situation;instead,they should explore,correct,and improve according to current conditions.The research shows that the application of Constructivism theory is conducive to enhancing students’ interests in English reading,help them grasp different reading skills,which in turn effectively promotes their English reading ability.However,in English reading teaching,teachers shouldn’t apply the theory mechanically;instead,they should conduct exploration and perfection according to current conditions.In spite of limited personal ability and limitations in the experiment,it is hoped that this thesis can offer referential value for future researches about teaching. |
