| The cultivation of English reading ability has always been a key and difficult point in English teaching,and more and more attention has been paid by teachers and experts.At the same time,more and more educators realize that English picture books are of great value in developing children’s reading ability.According to the research,there are some problems in the current English reading teaching in primary schools.Firstly,the choice of reading materials is single.Secondly,most of the students are in the state of "reading fatigue" and lack of interest in English reading.And our school as a rural primary school,students are less likely to have access to English.Thirdly,from the school point of view,there are still insufficient class hours.This also affects the development of primary school students’ reading ability.However,the plural content and subject matter provided in the picture book widens the students’knowledge and increases their multicultural consciousness.So the researcher develops a study“The Effects of English Picture Books on Senior Primary School Students,Reading”.The research questions are divided into four.Firstly,how does the picture book reading teaching affect students’ English reading ability?Secondly,how does the picture book reading teaching affect the ability of memorizing words?Thirdly,how to choose English picture books conforming to the cognitive characteristics of primary school seniors?Fourthly,how do teachers arrange the strategies of English picture book reading teaching?The main research methods adopted in this thesis include literature method,questionnaire method,experimental research method and interview method.All the students were from two parallel classes in grade five of the rural primary school.All students are required to read in the course of the experiment.In the experimental class,the picture book reading teaching was carried out,and only the pure text in the picture book was selected as the reading material in the control class.By analyzing the pre-test and post test data,we get the following conclusions:Firstly,picture book reading teaching is helpful to improve students’ English reading ability.Secondly,picture book reading teaching can help students improve the ability of memorizing words.Thirdly,the choice of English picture books considers the theme and plot of the picture books,language features and difficulties,as well as supporting resources.Fourthly,English picture book reading teaching needs to follow the relevant strategies:prediction,a variety of ways to read,selecting the appropriate teaching aids,timely review,and the picture book teaching content as the expansion of teaching materials.According to the conclusions of the study,the researcher gets the following conclusions:Firstly,picture book reading teaching can improve students’ scores more effectively than pure English reading materials.In the teaching,the teacher not only chooses the picture book carefully,but also carefully designs the practice.In this way,the combination of reading and practice can consolidate the students’ acquisition in the reading process and improve the reading effect.Secondly,picture book reading teaching methods than text reading materials used in traditional vocabulary teaching can be more focused to improve the students’ ability to memorize words,which can improve the reading effect.Therefore,we should integrate vocabulary teaching into picture book teaching,and determine the time of vocabulary teaching according to the students’ mastery and the degree of difficulty of picture books,so as to ensure the integrity and interest of picture books.Thirdly,when choosing picture books,teachers should pay attention to the theme and plot of picture books,the language features and difficulties of picture books,and the matching resources of picture books,in addition to considering the students’cognitive and age characteristics.Fourthly,English picture book reading teaching needs to follow the relevant strategies:prediction,a variety of ways to read,selecting the appropriate teaching aids,timely review,and the picture book teaching content as the expansion of teaching materials.Through these strategies,we can promote students’ reading comprehension and improve their reading effect. |
