| English reading teaching from the perspective of core literacy requires teachers to attach importance to the cultivation of students’ core literacy in English subjects during the teaching process.Reading is one of the important ways of language learning.New Junior English Curriculum Standard emphasizes the importance of English reading.English teachers should cultivate students’ reading interest and improve students’ reading ability according to the requirements of the new curriculum standard and the current situation of teaching English reading.It is necessary for teachers to find a new way of English reading teaching.English picture books interact with readers in the form of pictures and texts to convey the storyline which have the characteristics of intuitiveness,fun,readability,and aesthetics.English picture books are a good resource for reading.It’s a useful supplement and extension of the textbook.Teachers can introduce English picture books into reading class to help students develop reading interest,train their reading skills,enlarge their reading scope,improve their reading speed,form good reading habits and improve their reading ability.Upon review and analysis of the literature about research status of English picture books reading at home and abroad,this research is based on schema theory and Krashen input hypothesis.It introduces picture books in English reading class to explore if English picture books can stimulate students’ reading interest and improve the students’ English reading level.Eighty seventh grade students are chosen in a town of Suide,Yulin to proceed teaching experiment for a term.Before the picture books reading teaching experiment,a questionnaire survey and test are conducted on the students in the experimental class and the control class,and three students at different levels of theexperimental class are interviewed.In the experimental implementation stage,the English reading book is used in the control class while English picture books are used for reading teaching in the experimental class.After the experiment,the students in the experimental class and the control class are surveyed and tested again and the three students at different levels of the experimental class are interviewed again.By analyzing the data of the two questionnaires,the results of the interview and the test results of the two classes before and after the experiment,two conclusions are drawn.First,the application of English picture books in reading teaching can cultivate the reading interest of middle school students.Second,the application of English picture books in reading teaching can improve the reading ability of middle school students.Some useful methods of picture books in reading teaching are summarized during the teaching practice.At the same time,it is hoped that more picture books teaching strategies will be found in the future reading teaching practice.In the end,the author reflects on the limitations of the research and puts forward prospect. |
