Before and after the Revolution of 1911,Sun Yat-sen had experienced the evolution of the nation-state concept of “Drive Out the Manchus” to “The Republic of Five Ethic Groups”.This article aims to explain the role which played by Japan in the changing process of the nation-state concept of Sun,by examining the sources of Sun Yat-sen’s national revolutionary ideology and the ideal country’s paradigm to be constructed. The full thesis was divided into five chapters. The introduction chapter is mainly focus to sorts out the prior research in China and foreign countries recent years. The first chapter is mainly explores the sources of Sun Yat-sen’s national revolutionary ideas and outlines the ideal national paradigm to be constructed under the national revolutionary ideology. At the same time by examining Sun Yat-sen’s Meiji Restoration he pointed out that Japan does not have the qualifications to become the ultimate target for Sun Yat-sen to build an ideal national paradigm. The second chapter is mainly based on historical facts to state that Sun Yat-sen and Japan gradually move toward cooperation under the consideration of common interests. In this process,Sun Yat-sen presented an embarrassing attitude toward Japan, and of course Sun’s behaviors can be thought as broking his promise to "remise Manchu and Mongolian." However, all the Sun’s acts are based on the hope of obtaining Japanese aid and completing the idea: "Drive Out the Manchus,Revive Han China."The third chapter is mainly focuses on the co-interests and disagreements between the revolutionaries,Japan the reformists. Then this chapter is keep to focus on even with this fact which is between the revolutionaries,Japan and the reformists, how the national thought of "The Republic of Five Ethic Groups" was formed, and how the republican government was formed after the Revolution of 1911.The main purpose in this chapter is to show the fact that the revolutionists and reformists eventually got the mutual compromise under the examination of the nation-state concept, and also defeated the external problems by dismissed the internal contradiction. The reconstruction of the theory of "Drive Out the Manchus" and "The Republic of Five Ethic Groups" has promptly avoided Japan’s glimpse of Chinese territory for a long time.Apart from summarizing the full thesis in the concluding chapter, the author thought that it’s necessary to make a further study on the relationship between Sun Yat-sen and Japan after the establishment of the Republic of China. And also, author thought the continued study of this argument is conducive to a comprehensive examination of the reason why Sun Yat-sen aimed to establish a cooperation with Japan, and also it can help to get a better understanding of the process of Sun Yat-sen’s revolution.
