Alfred Tennyson,one of the most popular and distinctive poets in Victorian England,was honored with Poet Laureate.Tennyson’s poems are either romantic and warm,or deep and touching.The poet’s rough life and rich experience have created the content and profundity of his poems.The biography of Tennyson leads the reader back to the time of the poet,and leads to understand the influence of the time’s rendering as well as its emotional experience on the poetic creation and to feel the joys and sorrows of Tennyson.The Unquiet Heart belongs to the biography literature,and it is the documentary biography text,which based on the real situation,seeking truth from facts.Before the translation,the translator read a lot of relevant text,developed a reasonable translation plan,and with the help of computer-assisted translation software and reference tools,the translator set about doing it.In translation practice,the translator must carefully analyze each word and deliver the original meaning of the text as accurately as possible.After the whole translation version has been finished,it has been modified and polished many times to ensure fluency and smoothness.As we all know,great gaps stand between English and Chinese.So as to seek the equivalence translation between the target and source language,the translator have got to adopt the proper translation skills and strategies in the process of translation,and this paper tries to achieve it from two aspects: the lexical level and the syntactic level.Translation strategies of expository text at lexical level include amplification,negation,conversion and word choice.Translation strategies of expository text at syntactic level are restructuring,division,combination.The paper extracts the contents of chapter 14 and chapter 15 from The Unquiet Heart,and then translated the two chapters into Chinese.In the whole process,the translator analyses and summarizes the related strategies.
