The stories for rangers were recorded as a biography from the beginning of this book called “Historical Records”.Their images were reshaped,especially in Han dynasty and the stories for rangers became basic historic source for their culture.While martial-arts are raised for the first time in Japan,which makes many scholars become thinking the difference between rangers in ancient and martial arts in modern.For rangers in Japanese period novels,there are the same as classic ones in Han dynasty,but the studies about them were rarely researched.The main thought for this essay is to describe the difference from their images in order to know about the definition for “rangers”,“samurai” and “martial-arts”,make the classical chivalrous spirit distinctly and find out the difference between China and Japan.The article will be divided into the following parts:The first part is talking about the achievements of Chinese chivalrous research in Han Dynasty and reviewing the comparison between Chinese and Japanese rangers,looking for the academic gaps in Japanese researching and sorting out the venation and existing problems.The second part describes the rangers’ images in history books of Han,which is getting from characteristics.The third part examines the concept and categories of Japanese period novels.As their images,the rangers in these novels will be analyzed and enumerated,and also their respective characteristics will be summarized.Meanwhile,this part will also analyses the “The six trilogy of martial-arts” written by Japanese author---Shunro Oshikawa and reviews the characteristics of martial-arts.The forth part is the summary and comparison of the rangers between history books of Han and Japanese period novels.The definitions of rangers will be showed by identity,behaviors and spirits.At the same time,comparing with the novels written by Shunro Oshikawa,they show the difference and connection among classical chivalrous spirit,Bushido and the martial-arts spirit in modern times.The last part is a conclusion.The aim of this essay is to summarize the images of rangers in history books of Han,which including the rethinking of the vagueness and key points in the study of the rangers in different periods of the Han Dynasty.Moreover,the analysis of Japanese period novels fills the gaps and revises the misunderstanding in academy.The comparisons between rangers in history books of Han and Japanese period novels are not only reassess the different backgrounds and cultures of the rangers,but also make a new perspective for two countries.Therefore,the essay focuses on the whole chivalrous culture in China and Japan,and makes us find a new connection with a same chivalrous complex.It also has certain theoretical significance for the study of chivalrous culture in the future.
