On Replication And Transmission Of Memetic Genotype

The translation task is to translate an excerpt from an English economic book entitled Machine,Platform,Crowd: Harnessing Our Digital Future into Chinese.The initiator is a technology company which requires co-translators to participate in the book translation together with the aid of Trados,and the translation will be used for reference.Therefore,the translation strategy is to ensure that terms and definitions are accurate and the target text is fluent and readable to the target reader,or to put it in another way,to encode memes of the source language in the target language by considering the new cognitive context to ensure the memes successfully replicated and transmitted based on the theory of memetics.At present,there are a limited number of papers that discuss translation theories and practice from the perspective of memetics.Two translation memes,namely memetic genotype and memetic phenotype,are in the translation meme pool,while only meme-genotype transmission is prototypical memetic transmission.Memetic genotype is transmitted in two forms: one is the form of homotype and the other one is the form of heterotype.The form of homotype guarantees the accurate replication of terms and definitions in which process literal translation is adopted when terms are transplanted and definitions are replicated;the form of heterotype makes sure that the target text is readable where semantic replication needs to be reasoned in the context and a long sentence is segmented into several short sentences to replicate the source memes.The form of homotype or heterotype needs to be correctly chosen,for the purpose of realizing the replication and transmission of memetic genotype.The translation report discusses the theory of memetics from aspects of theory and practice,providing practical help for the study of memetics later on.
