D.H Lawrence is one of the greatest British novelists of the 20th century. His novels involve the concern of females and the colonized land. The Plumed Serpent shows Lawrence’s care for the Mexican black women under the race, gender and class oppression. This thesis intends to analyze the Mexican women’s predicament from the postcolonial feminist theory so as to reveal the black Mexican women’s plight and struggle and Lawrence’s real concern. The analysis covers the Mexican women’s oppression from the colonizers at first, who implement culture hegemony to permeate their culture and become the mainstream culture in Mexico. And then these black women become the culture other and have to face the gender oppression from the Mexican male who is shifting from the oppressed to the oppressor.Sexual oppression, legal discrimination and hard physical labor are the common suffering for them. But the black females try their best to carry the resistance and self-salvation by preserving the traditional black culture, trying to ally with men and speaking out for themselves.
