With the acceleration of globalization,English has been playing a more and more important role, and the requirement for teaching efficiency in English class is becoming higher and higher. At present, vocational education develops rapidly and reform of higher vocational schools is being carried out vigorously.Meanwhile, reform of English teaching is also pushed forward ceaselessly.Though English education in secondary vocational schools has developed gloriously and made great progress, there still exist some problems.Due to the traditional teaching concept, many in-service teachers prefer to adopt the grammar-translation teaching method. They tend to give more attention to students’ cognition, neglecting their emotion, which will not only affect students’ cognition development but also do harm to their all-around development.Consequently the New Standard of English Curriculum issued by our country’s Ministry of Education lists the concern of students’ affective factors as one of the five subject objectives. Therefore,we should pay high attention to affective teaching method in English class in order to make reform of vocational English teaching keep up with the pace of the era.Under such background, this thesis concentrates on the present situation of English emotional teaching in secondary vocational school.Based on the previous studies,it attempts to make a detailed investigation into the present situation and problems of English emotional teaching in secondary vocational school,as well,it attempts to provide some practical strategies to the problems. The subjects of this research are 119 students from Shijiazhuang Junxing Secondary Vocational School. The instruments of the investigation are questionnaires. The investigation mainly focuses on the students’ situation of English emotional teaching in class.According to the results and analysis of the investigation, the author gets the following major findings: the status of the students’ affective state is not satisfying. Many students feel anxious when speaking English;a large number of them are not interested in English because of various kinds of reasons;more than half of the students learn English just for a job,not for the love of the language;nearly half of them have a low self-esteem.They desire to be encouraged and praised by teachers during class, however, these affective needs are not satisfied adequately. In order to optimize English teaching and promote students’ all-around development, some suggestions are put forward for teachers to implement emotional teaching in English class. They are affective strategies for the teaching contents, teaching evaluations, teaching atmosphere and classroom organization and so on.Finally, the limitations of the present study and some suggestions for the future research are also offered in the thesis.
