Skopos Theory is an important theory of German functionalist school, which contains three rules, namely skopos rule, coherence rule and loyalty rule. This report applies three rules of Skopos Theory into the translation of the academic work—Is That a Fish in Your Ear? for the sake of having a further study of Skopos Theory and improving the ability of translation.By combining the theory with translation practice,it is hoped that this report could provide a new perspective for Chinese readers to understand the Western translation theories and offer some humble effort to translation studies. The translation report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction to the report, which is composed of the background, the significance, and the structure of the report. The second chapter is the research background, which includes the content of Skopos Theory, the applicability of the Skopos Theory to the guidance of the translation of academic work, and the introduction to the original text.Based on the three rules of Skopos Theory, the third part analyzes the translation of the first three chapters of Is That a Fish in Your Ear?,focusing on difficulties encountered and translation methods used during translation process. The fourth part makes a summary of the experience and lessons during translation and the problems to be settled.
