| Biographical literature is a literary genre with the dual characteristics of history and literature. It uses various means of literary art except for fiction to show the life, the deeds and the spirit of the characters by organizing kinds of materials, memories and possible evidence(Yang Zhengrun 2009: 26).Under the influence of globalization in the new period, the exchange of biographical literature has further deepened at home and abroad. Therefore, biographical literature translation is greatly meaningful(Songlei 2012: 137).The translator chooses Chapter 3 of Empress of Fashion: A Life of Diana Vreeland,a non-fictional biography,as the source text.Empress of Fashion: A Life of Diana Vreeland written by Amanda Mackenzie Stuart is a great biography, comprehensively and vividly depicting Vreeland in life and work.Chapter 3 mainly describes the life and personal relationship of Vreeland from 1925-1935,especially Vreeland’s time in England from 1929-1935,which would lead her to entry into the fashion-publishing world.Diana Vreeland’s experience in Europe would support everything she accomplished in the future. Thus, the experience of the period is of great importance to her future fashion career. This is a report of an English-Chinese translation practice. There are four parts in the report.Firstly, the report starts with introduction to the translation text.Secondly, the report makes a description on the translation process, including pre-translation preparations,while-translation and post-translation.Thirdly,it concentrates on case analysis, including conversion, negation, repetition, annotation and extension. Finally, the report draws a conclusion for the translation practice. |
