Breathtaking advances have been made in information technology. It is obvious that this technology has brought people great convenience and efficiency, however, they have undoubtedly posed a real challenge to the technology-based privacy. This excerpt, extracted from the first two sections of Part I in Privacy in Context which is written by Hellen Nissenbaum, puts great emphasis on a contemporary snapshot of the landscape of technological and socio-technical systems, including a few of detailed close-ups.In addition to describing the translation project and process, this report primarily expounds case analysis.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation, this report concentrates on two aspects: terminologies and syntactic strategies. In terms of terminologies, the translator applies transference and literal translation with notes into translating them;as for syntactic strategies, two parts are discussed: turning phrases into clauses and reinventing sentence structures. The former explores the application of noun phrases, prepositional phrases and past participial phrases in translation. The latter analyzes the translation in adjusting sentence structures and conveying the meaning merely. Then,it comes into the conclusion in which some problems met in the practice, reflection about translation and hopes are presented. Finally,it is expected that this report can raise wide attention about privacy issues from society and individuals and serve as a reference for other parallel texts.
