English plays an important role in all fields as an international language.While the role of English listening and speaking has become increasingly prominent in crosscultural communication.Improving students' listening proficiency is an important requirement of the new curriculum reform.Therefore,how to improve learners' listening ability has become an urgent problem in current English teaching.As we all know,learning motivation is one of vital factors in foreign language learning.While teachers play an important role in stimulating and maintaining students' learning motivation and improving students' English listening ability.The ARCS motivational model is both motivational and teaching model to help teachers stimulate listening motivation and improve listening proficiency of students.The research mainly aimed at stimulating students' learning motivation and completing English listening teaching efficiently by applying ARCS motivational model in English teaching class.Based on the ARCS motivational model,this paper integrated the motivational categories with the teaching activities and applied them to English listening class of junior high school.In this study,the author mainly studied the following two questions:(1)How to design English listening teaching activities based on the ARCS motivational model?(2)To what extent does ARCS motivational model stimulate students' learning motivation in junior English listening teaching?The subject of this study was 62 students from a class of Grade 8 in Helong City,Jilin Province.The observation in the classroom proved that this model was effective in the teaching of English listening.Then,the responses and attitudes of teachers and students to the motivational strategies adopted in experimental class were collected through questionnaires and interviews.By comparing the English listening class based on ARCS motivational strategies with conventional listening class that did not apply the model,it can be proved that this model was effective in English listening class of junior high school.It can effectively stimulate students' learning motivation.It has reference value for implementing this model to English listening class.
