A Study Of Japan’s Female Language

Japanese is one of the few languages in the world with obvious gender characteristics.As foreigners,when we learn Japanese,it is hard to know the usage and difference between the male language and the female language.This article focuses on the female language in Japanese.there is a detailed description in traditional female language an modern language.at the same time,comparing with the male language and analysing the characteristics of the female language to analyse the reasons of female language’s origin,development and change.hoping that Japanese learners have a systematic and clear cognition of Japanese.The traditional female’s language mainly includes The Sacrifice of Saito Palace words,Esposa words and hooker’s language.The Sacrifice of Saito Palace words is developing from the Heian period,used in shrine or by the people who work in temple.Essentially,It’s a kind of enigmatic language that avoids filthy words to show the respect to God and Buddha.The kind of expression is very less in the modern Japanese.But it can be said that Muromachi era’s Esposa words is a standard female language.It’s formed by melodious and elegant words when the women who worked in palace try to say something about basic necessities of life.At first,it’s used by women only.Then it’s used by the whole nobility gradually.In the latter,It’s even used by the civilians.But in the modern female language,it’s remained the kind of that plus ‘o’ or ‘go’ in the beginning of a word.Hooker’language is a kind of expression used by the Edo’s Kyotoan and Qsaka’s red light district’ hookers in Edo period.Hookers are from countryside.covering up the local’s accent to sound more tender and elegant.As a result,they created new reasons in language.It mainly focuses on the ending of a sentence.For example,the expression of‘te su’ or ‘ma su’ are from hooker’s language in modern Japanese.Comparing with male language,female language is more polite and tender.It sounds more exquisite.Unlike there is some language change in male language.Its tone auxiliary is more diverse.Not only the modals in the beginning of a sentence,but also the final auxiliary words.for example,‘wa,wa ne,yo ne,wa yo,a ra,a re,ma a’ are usually used by the females.In the choice of words,first.in the personal pronouns.‘wa ta xi’ is usually used by male.In the choice of synonyms,females use more random and rude wordings.But this characteristic isn’t so obvious in modern Japanese.The females are more willing to using the form of‘o’ or ‘go’ plus a word.Throughout the whole development process of history.The female language experience many changes in its generation,prosperity and decline.There must be some reasons in it.From the history’s factors,Sacrifice of Saito Palace words ’generation is concerned about the propagation of shintoism and buddhist ideas.Esposa words’ generation is concerned about the incoming of Chinese culture to Japanese’s culture.From social factors,these female language is concerned about the social status’ change of female.This dissertation focuses on the Japanese’s female language,analysing its characteristics and the generation’s reasons.Hoping that people can refer something on it.But it worth that language is changing as people are talking.”Today it’s a available expression form.It could be changed in the future.This is the reason why female language is being masculined”.some researchers said.It’s important that we should have developing vision in this phenomenon.
