A Report On The E-C Translation Of Business Contract Based On Newmark’s Text Typology

The increasing exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries have become more and more frequent due to the rapid development of economic and trade activities.In the business activities,the contract strictly stipulates and guarantees the rights and obligations of each party,having great influence on the success of commercial activities.The translation of high-quality business contract plays a crucial role in the smooth progress of economic activities and can promote international cooperation and avoid unnecessary legal disputes.Based on E-C translation of a ten-thousand-word excerpt from The Purchase Order of General Electrical International Incorporation,this report aims to discuss the difficulties and problems encountered as well as the translation skills adopted by the author during the translation process in order to provide a reference for future E-C translation of business contract.The report contains five parts.A brief introduction of this translation project is given in the first part.Then,the second part focuses on Newmark’s text typology and the domestic studies on E-C translation of business contract.The third part discusses the overall process of the translation practice,which contains pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation revision.In the fourth part,some concrete problems of E-C translation of business contract have been analyzed under the guidance of some practical translation principles and skills from the perspective of Newmark’s text typology.Finally,this report concludes with a brief summary of the translation project,hoping to provide some references for E-C translation of business contract.
