Under the influences of the global trend of Ecology, the concepts of Ecology are being introduced into many disciplines of Arts and Humanities, and many researches and studies of inter-discipline are being carried out.Professor Hu Gengshen put concepts of “natural selection” and “survival of the fittest”,borrowed from Darwin's Biological Evolution, into researches and practices of translation, and put forward the theory of translation as adaption and selection, based on which he brought forward Eco-translatology.He believes translation is an activity of selection in which the translator adapts to the translational eco-environment.Adaption means the translator adapts to the translational eco-environment with the source text as an important element;selection means the translator selects his or her version of translation with his or her identity as the translational eco-environment.Professor Hu also raised the degree of holistic adaption and selection as the evaluation criteria mainly including three aspects: multidimensional transformation which focuses on the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions;readers' feedback which includes common readers, expert readers, publishers, clients, etc.;translator quality which indicates the translator's ability to understand the source text and to express in the target text. This thesis uses Eco-translatology to make a comparative study on two Chinese versions of Lin Yutang's English work My Country and My People,Huang Jiade's and Hao Zhidong and Shen Yihong's versions which are the most popular ones among the Chinese versions. The thesis first analyzes the two versions from the perspective of selection and adaptation, finding that both the translators have adapted to their own translational eco-environments to some degree, and then selected their versions of translation. Then, the thesis makes a comparison and evaluation of the two from multidimensional transformation, readers' feedback, and translator quality. As for multidimensional transformation, the thesis finds the co-translation is better than Huang's translation.By comparing the publishing houses, issues, and reader comments, the thesis finds the co-translation is much more popular.Upon the comparison and analysis above, the thesis concludes that Hao Zhidong and Shen Yihong's version is of a higher degree of holistic adaption and selection, and thus is a better Chinese version. There are few researches on the two Chinese versions at home, and even fewer researches on the comparison of them. Therefore, this thesis is of fair academic value.
