The Artistic Characteristics And Performance Of Mendelssohn's "Songs Without Words"

Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy(3 February 1809--4 November1847),known as Felix Mendelssohn."Songs Without Words" was written between1829 and 1845.The romanticism was prevailing in this certain time period,whatever it is from literature,music,and intellectual movement.Without exception,Mendelssohn's works are influenced completely as well.For Mendelssohn's works,the historical background,the music characteristic,the harmony,the style and texture are all making the direction to Romanticism Era.In this paper,the literature and personal diary can be used for the analyzation with "Songs Without Words".Furthermore,I will combine the practical experience to indicate more elements of this work,such as the piano touch technique,the inner melody part,the texture of accompaniment and the articulation.Through these expressions,it can be better to perform this piece,and also making a connection to the audience and the composer,having an emotional resonance.
