During the teaching,there were three things that bothered the researcher in grammar teaching: 1.the grammar learning was boring;2.the grammar teaching way was always the same;3.grammar rules became students’ memory burden.Therefore,students’ interest in English gradually decreased when they were in Grade 9,and as a result,the English learning efficiency declined.To solve the problems,the author,an English teacher in a middle school in Zunyi City,did an action research in English grammar teaching strategies in two classes under the guidance of three-dimension language theory advocated by Larsen-Freeman.In the action research,it aimed to improve the grammar teaching with the application of instructional strategies under the guidance of three dimensions of language that focused on three dimensions of grammar in context to use grammar as a skill to improve the grammatical knowledge instead of traditional grammar teaching that mainly focused on the form teaching.In the implementation of the teaching plan,there are three main steps: presentation,practice and production in context.In presentation,the grammar was presented in context to perceive the form and meaning dimension of grammar.Then,grammar rules were asked to induce.In practice,the learning challenge was confirmed by three dimensions of specific grammar and students’ situation.Then,it was asked to practice incontext.In production,the tasks were asked to finish and observed by three dimensions of language with the standard of accuracy,fluency and appropriateness of language,which were measured whether the teaching goals had achieved or not.There were two phases in the research.Each phase takes the model:planning,action,observing and reflecting.At the beginning,the first test was used to make confirmation of students’ problems in the test paper.In the middle of the research,the instruments of interview,middle-test and class observation were used to test the learning efficiency of the first phase’s plan and make adjustment for the second one.At the end of the research,the instruments of interview,questionnaires,grammar test and final test were used to test the learning efficiency of the research plan.The research shows that it has a positive effect on students ’grammar learning with the application of instructional strategies of three dimensions of language: 1.the grammar class is active generally;2.most of students have a good performance on grammatical knowledge;3.part of students can use grammar as a skill to finish the tasks.It implicates that it should take students’ aptitude into consideration in the application of instructional strategies and take evaluations on students from multiple dimensions.
