With the acceleration of the global integration process, the exchanges between different countries become more and more frequent. As the largest developing country in the world,China is playing an increasingly important role under the tide of global economization, and its influence is also increasing. In order to enhance the international community’s understanding to China, the White Paper has played an important role in China’s external publicity. As an official document of the government, the White Paper of China comprehensively and systematically introduces the propositions and positions of the Chinese government on some major issues, which is worth of being explored. The paper mainly includes six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, which mainly introduces the research background, significance and structure of the paper.Chapter two is about literature review.Chapter three summarizes the functional equivalence theory and discusses the contents and the principles of the functional equivalence theory. The forth chapter deals with the characteristics of the White Paper from three aspects: vocabulary, syntax and rhetoric and the principles of White Paper translation from the perspective of functional equivalence theory. The fifth chapter, analyzing some translation examples of the White Paper: China and the World Trade Organization,is the key part of this paper. The chapter combines Nida’s functional equivalence theory with the characteristics of the White Paper to analyze the translation of the White Paper:China and the World Trade Organization and corresponding translation strategies at each level are proposed. The analysis is made from three aspects: the levels of lexicon, syntax, discourse. In terms of vocabulary, the selected example sentences are analyzed from three aspects:culture-loaded words,high-frequency collocation words and four-character cases.Syntactically, the selected sentences are analyzed from two aspects: the change of the subject of the sentence without subject and the change of the word order of the long and difficult sentences. In terms of discourse, the selected example sentences are discussed mainly from the two aspects: repetition and parataxis. And the last chapter concludes the whole paper. From the perspective of functional equivalence theory, the paper makes an analysis of the translation of the White Paper on China and the World Trade Organization.By doing so,the paper sums up some translation methods and strategies used in the translation, which will help to provide some theoretical references to the translation of the White Paper in the future.
