Since the 20th century,automobile industry has been blossoming.As international scientific and technological exchanges are becoming more frequent,the translation of automotive foreign materials plays an increasingly important role.automotive English belongs to scientific English that features rigorousness,accuracy and conciseness.It also contains a large number of technological terms.It is one of the most important means for international technical exchange to translate scientific English accurately,therefore,the author believes that it is necessary to study how to translate automotive English.The report is based on the ninth chapter of Materials for Automobile Bodies.Firstly,it mainly introduces the translation project,translation process and the linguistic features including vocabulary and syntax of automotive English.Secondly,it expounds the difficulties and solutions in vocabulary translation,sentences translation and text cohesion.The methods,such as literal translation,transliteration,omission syntactic linearity and conversions are used to convey the original text information to the readers accurately.Finally it summarizes the challenges and inspirations in translation.The purpose of this report is to provide more systematic translation strategies for the translation of automotive English,and to provide reference for those who study automotive Henglish in the future.The significance of this report is to bring more readable materials to automotive professionals.which is convenient for the introduction and research of new technology.At the same time,it also can improve the author’s translation skills.
