Analysis Of Game Localization Characteristics Of PUBG Mobile From The Perspective Of Multi-dimensional Transformation Of Signs

This paper analyzes symbol transformation between "PUBG Mobile" and its original Chinese version from the perspective of multi-dimensional transformation of signs in the hypertext context.The author collects data of in-game text,voice,background music,images,and action expressions of the two games.The data are divided into one-dimensional signs,two-dimensional signs and three-dimensional signs according to the theoretical framework of multidimensional transformation of signs,and are analyzed one by one.After analysis,the research finds that the multidimensional sign transformation in the game localization of PUBG Mobile presents the following characteristics:1.in the one-dimensional sign transformation,the verbal sign transformation mainly adopts two strategies,namely literal translation,and omission.Translation mistakes also exist in the localization of PUBG Mobile.Literal translation is often adopted in interface settings,article introduction and rule description translation.Omission is adopted mostly to reduce cost,and save time and screen space.Transcreation is adopted to cater to the culture of the target area,and on the other hand,to save screen space.As for non-verbal signs,the transformation of background music and sound effects reflects cultural characteristics.As for speech,text and typesetting,weights and measures,and time format,"PUBG Mobile" is similar to its original Chinese version.2.as for two-dimensional sign transformation,the background image and killing effect of the PUBG Mobile is more vivid than the original version,and is close to the style of computer game PUBG,which can make foreign players who transfer from the computer game to the mobile game feel familiar,and attracts computer game players.3.In the three-dimensional sign transformation,Tencent deleted the gesture“likes",which has double meanings and will lead to confusion in English-speaking countries if it is used improperly.Only "Hello","Applause" and "Thank you",gestures with a single meaning,are provided to ensure accurate and clear communication among players.This paper is only a preliminary attempt to analyze game localization from the perspective of multidimensional transformation of signs.In the analysis of two-dimensional and three-dimensional sign transformation,only the most obvious aspects are discussed.Future research can focus on other aspects of two-dimensional and three-dimensional sign transformation and provide a comprehensive and in-depth analysis.
