A Sociolinguistic Study Of Special Dialect Words In Hohhot

In recent years,the combination of sociolinguistic and dialect research becomes a new trend of dialect study.Based on the sociolinguistic theory,the essay describes the indentification situation,usage and attitude of words and expressions in Hohhot special dialect words,and according to quantitative analysis,discusses the changes of five social factors,which are age,education,occupation,gender and region in this situation.The essay is divided into six chapters.The introduction introduces the general situation of Hohhot and its dialect,explains the research status,research methods and basic information of the questionnaire.The first chapter is about Age factor analysis.The study found that the intergenerational stratification of the indentification,the use of different types of dialect words is not very obvious and all age levels had a good control of dialect words.Also,the familiarity of some words grows with age.Due to the lacking of elderly people samples,the results of survey were affected in somehow.The second chapter is analysis of educational factors.The study found that no matter what the education level one has,one has a quite excellent command of dialect words.but cognition of part words is inversely proportional to one's education.The more education accepting,the less of command of dialect words.The third chapter is occupational factor analysis.The study found that any occupation could with regard to fluently using dialect words,restaurant waiter and salesclerk are the best good at using dialect words.On the other hand,teacher and individual business owner are not good at using dialect words.The fourth chapter is gender factor analysis.The study found that women have a better command of dialect words than men.The fifth chapter is regional factor analysis.The study found that compared with the above social factors,regions have a great influence on the indentification of dialect words,and nonimmigrants have a better command of dialect words than immigrants.For the use of dialect words and the use of attitude,the internal differences between the above five social factors are not particularly obvious.Compared Hohhot dialect with mandarin,mandarin is still the first choice for people's daily communication.Moreover,the influence of social factors on language attitude,the positive evaluation of dialect and mandarin are much higher than the negative evaluation.Epilogue is the conclusion of this essay and the shortcomings of the study.
