A Report On E-C Translation Of The Other Side Of The Frontier:Aboriginal Resistance To The European Invasion Of Australia(Chapter 2)

In this translation practice,the original text of which comes from Henry Reynolds’s book-Chapter Two of The Other Side of the Frontier: Aboriginal Resistance to the European Invasion of Australia.The book was published in 1981 by the Australian historian Henry Reynolds.It expounds the resistance of Australian Aborigines against British immigration and invasion after 1788.Chapter Two mainly describes the continuity and change of Australian indigenous people,which has profoundly changed our understanding of the relationship between Australian Aborigines and European colonists.This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part is the description of the translation project,which mainly introduces the background of the task,the characteristics of the translation task and the literature review.The second part elaborates the translation process,including pre-translation,the process of translation and ways to control quality of the translation.In the third part,the translator makes a case study of the difficulties in translation from the three aspects of words,sentences and discourse.Accordingly,amplification,omission and conversion are used for words translation.Furthermore,inclusion,division,and inversion are used for sentences translation.And in discourse,there used the methods of reference cohesion and conjunction cohesion.The fourth part is the summary of translation practice,which includes reflections on the translation practice,limitations and suggestions in translation.The translation process of this thesis is guided by a variety of translation methods and solves some common problems in non-literary translation via practice.It is hoped that it can provide references for scholars and readers who are interested in Australian Aboriginal culture.
