| As is known to all,the vocabulary is closely related to language ability.Although vocabulary has been paid great attention to by the teachers,it is still the weakest part of junior school students.In addition to the problems of lacking vocabulary,there is a common phenomenon that many students can’t employ the words in reading and writing,which will result the loss of interest in English.The National English Curriculum standards advocate that the education should take learners’ individual differences into consideration and satisfy their different needs to the greatest extent.The author considers MI to be a promising method to improve the vocabulary teaching and learning situation and to meet the requirements of students’ cultivating.MI theory suggests that individuals’ different intelligence combinations should be highly noticed and a great number of teaching and learning activities of different types should be involved in the class to promote students’ development in an all-round way.Applying MI theory into vocabulary teaching,the thesis mainly discusses the following two research questions.Question 1: Can vocabulary teaching based on MI theory improve students’vocabulary learning strategies?Question 2: Can vocabulary teaching based on MI theory improve students’vocabulary proficiency?Aiming to explore the efficiency of applying MI theory into vocabulary teaching,the author carries out a 17-week teaching program,choosing two classes in Grade 7 in Ganwang Middle School in Haicheng,Liaoning Province as the participants.The experimental class is taught with MI theory while the control class is taught with traditional teaching method.Results analyzed from questionnaires,tests,and interview show clearly that the vocabulary learning strategies in EC has been improved and the students’ English vocabulary proficiency in EC is significantly higher than that of in CC,which indicates that applying MI theory into vocabulary teaching is a practical way to enforce students’ vocabulary learning.Moreover,this study supplies useful reference for future research in this field. |
