| This is a report on the E-C Translation project of an excerpt of a patent entitled Magnetic Field Sensors and Related Techniques Provide a Self-test.This project is entrusted by Cosemitech(Shanghai)Co.Ltd..The source text is the second part of the patent which introduces how magnetic field sensors can achieve a self-test.The main purpose of this project is to help the technical personnel of the entrusting party understand the contents related to the magnetic field sensors and make greater contributions to the company’s product development. This scientific literature is characterized by technical terms, passive sentences and long sentences with structural complexity. In view of these characteristics and the purpose of this translation project, the author takes Skopos Theory as theoretical foundation, analyzes and discusses several translation methods and translation skills(amplification and omission, conversion and literal translation, etc)employed in this translation practice to translate terms and technical sentences with typical cases.By doing this, the author aims to achieve skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule in translation, which could raise the accuracy and readability of the target text and offer a useful reference for target readers to understand the scientific yield of magnetic field sensors. After the completion of the translation project, assessments of the company, the author’s supervisor and the author herself have been made.Owing to the lack of professional knowledge and limited translation experience, there is still room for the author to improve the target version. The intended purpose of the translation project has been achieved. The author also harvests a cherished translation experience. |
