A Study On Monosyllabic Digging-class Hand Verbs In Mandarin

Digging class monosyllabic hand verbs is a small category of hand verbs from the perspective of meaning,this paper mainly selects six verbs to study.Based on the three plane grammar theories,this paper studies the digging monosyllabic hand verbs from three aspects: syntax,semantics and pragmatics on the synchronic level of modern Chinese and corpus.In this paper,quantitative and qualitative,descriptive and explanatory methods are used to investigate the syntactic features of the digging class monosyllabic hand verbs from three aspects: the syntactic distribution,the object and the complement.Among the members of digging monosyllabic hand verbs,"digging(?)" is used most frequently.In syntactic distribution,digging monosyllabic hand verbs mainly appear in the predicate position.This paper investigates the object and complement of digging monosyllabic hand verbs from form and meaning,and analyses the semantic orientation of complement.In this paper,the combination of contrast and analysis is used to investigate the digging monosyllabic hand verbs from five aspects: the position of action,the purpose of the action,the way of action,the direction of action and the object of the verb.Firstly,the common semantic features of the mining monosyllabic hand verbs are discussed.According to the common semantic features of the mining monosyllabic hand verbs,the semantic category of "the hands make action contact or enter objects to make objects appear or change shape" is established.Secondly,according to the corpus,the semantic characteristics of each member of the digging monosyllabic hand verbs are summarized.This paper discusses the pragmatic features of digging monosyllabic verbs from two aspects: style and cognition.As far as style is concerned,digging monosyllabic hand verbs are unevenly distributed.In addition,under the guidance of cognitive linguistics,this paper explores the metaphorical patterns of digging monosyllabic hand verbs.
