A Chinese-English Translation Report On History And Archaeological Discoveries Of Pre-Qin China

With the growing cultural exportation in China,history,an important branch of the humanities,has played an increasingly significant role in cultural exchange and promotion.Accordingly,the great importance should be attached to the translation of historical text.At present,the translation about historical text in China is mainly driven by cultural policy of the government,commercial interests and academic research.For example,some historical documents on personal stories,historical events,archaeological discoveries and preservation of cultural relics have been translated into English.The translation about historical text is quite active,and therefore,it is very significant to analyze and study the translation difficulties and translation strategies of such text.During the practice,the author has participated in a translation project related to historical text.In terms of the project,the author has analyzed and researched the translation of historical text.When translating the project,the author has also made full use of the translation theory,Skopos Theory.There are three important rules in its theoretical framework,namely,Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,among which the Skopos rule is the most important rule because the translator needs to consider the purpose of target text and the expected effect on the target readers while translating.At the same time,the translator must take into account the coherence of the target text and the fidelity to the source text.By analyzing specific examples,the author has elaborated on the difficulties encountered in this project like terminology,proper noun,long and difficult sentence and ancient Chinese.At the same time,the author has also illustrated corresponding translation strategies respectively under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,such as literal translation,free translation,division,reconstruction and amplification.In the end,the author has introduced the feedback after the completion of the project and his own reflections on the project,as well as some suggestions for future translation.
