As a famous poetess in the Song Dynasty,Li Qingzhao had great cultural accomplishment, and bold creative spirit. In an ancient society in which men were superior to women, the high literary achievements Li made affirmed the potentials and value of women.Li’s Ci poetry bears profound cultural connotation and feelings, and enjoys a good reputation at home and abroad. Her Ci poetry contains clear female awareness and independent thoughts.Li used lucid and elegant words to represent the author’s inner world and women’s softness. Some translators tried hard to translate Li’s Ci poems, but they had only several complete versions published. In the thesis, this author selected two versions created by Xu Yuanchong and Mao Yumei. Thus, the study of Li Qingzhao’s Ci translation is pioneering and significant. The author makes an analysis of two versions under the feminist translation theory. The Western feminism and the "cultural turn" of translation are two critical elements for the formation of feminist translation theory. This theory mainly contains three aspects:the translators’ subjectivity, redefinition of "fidelity" and three translation strategies. So far few Chinese scholars have made research on the application of this theory into practice,so the combination of this theory and the translation of ancient Chinese poetry is a new attempt. From this study, the author reaches the following conclusions:Firstly, the feminist translation theory provides a new angle of research, and translators can employ the feminist translation strategies to represent the female consciousness in the original works.Secondly,Mao Yumei and Xu Yuanchong both embody the translators’ existence in selecting the source text and translation strategies, thus improving the status of translators and the quality of the target texts.Thirdly, the author finds that the feminist translation strategies are truly helpful to display the original meaning and culture. It is hoped that the results of this study can give some reference to other translators in translating similar texts, and attract more scholars and translators to the translation and study of ancient Chinese poetry so that the Chinese culture can be spread to other countries of the world.
