| In the nineties of last century, the Hong Kong cinema was in deep depression. However, the return of Hong Kong in 1997 for the first time opened the cinema market of China mainland, and since then, the communications and collaborations between Hong Kong and China mainland have been largely reinforced. In 2003,the central government of China mainland signed with Hong Kong “Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement”(CEPA),and with the progressive execution of CEPA,communications and collaborations between China mainland and Hong Kong has been even furthered.Since then,a bunch of directors from Hong Kong like Peter Chan,Hark Tusi,Stephen Chow,Gordon Chan,Wilson Yip,Johnnie To,Jeffrey Lau and Jing Wong have entered the cinema market of China mainland. In the past 12 years, they have progressively grasped and fitted their works into the culture of China mainland, and their films have already composed a vital part of its cinema market. However, the development in China mainland is not always smooth, they have to make some adjustments to fit themselves into the cinema market of China mainland, which makes their films present some new characteristics.Being bold and enterprising creators and adjusters in the new environment of China mainland, these directors from Hong Kong have gained profits, advantages, and new paths of career development, but they simultaneously are still confronting some problems and challenges. |
