Eco-Translatology,an emerging eco-translation paradigm put forward by Chinese Professor Hu Gengshen, has been gaining popularity in recent years. The fundamental idea of Eco-Translatology is deeply rooted in the Chinese traditional philosophy, which is full of eco-wisdom as it focuses on holism and ecology.Six Chapters of A Floating Life is a well-known autobiographic prose written by Shen Fu,a famous Chinese litterateur in the Qing dynasty. In the 1930 s,when it was translated by Lin Yutang into English,it became very popular in western countries. There are many Chinese culture-loaded words in it,so this thesis makes a detailed analysis of Lin's translation strategies of these words from the perspective of “three-dimensional transformations”,namely the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimension. In the linguistic dimension,Lin's translation is studied from the lexical, syntactic and textual levels. In the cultural dimension, examples of the temporal expressions, religion and allusions are discussed in order to have a glimpse of Lin's cultural translation strategies. And in terms of the communicative dimension, the communicative function of Lin's translation is analyzed. However, there are now few studies that analyze the translation of Six Chapters of A Floating Life from Eco-Translatology,making this thesis innovative and operable. Moreover, this study suggests that in order to promote the internationalization of Chinese culture and make the translation more acceptable for target readers,a good translator requires excellent language and translation skills as well as a good knowledge of the cultural difference between China and foreign countries.
