A Study Of Pingdong She Dialect In Pingdi,Shenzhen

This thesis takes the Pingdong She Dialect in Pingdi subdisrtict,Longgang district,Shenzhen as the object of the study,which describes and researches the Pingdong She Dialect itself.Moreover,the types of Cantonese in Shenzhen as well as their phonological features have been discussed.The whole thesis is composed of six parts.In Chapter One,a survey of humanity,geography and dialects in Shenzhen has been introduced briefly,with the previous studies regarding dialects in Shenzhen.In Chapter Two,the names,origins,and relations of She Dialects in different areas have been researched and discussed.Chapter Three describes the phonology of Pingdong She Dialect and makes a comparative study of it and middle phonology of Chinese.In Chapter four,taking medieval phonology of Chinese as an outline,a comparative study of the phonologies of Pingdong She Dialect,Zhanmi Dialect,Dapeng Dialect,Nantou Dialect as well as Hakka Dialect.In Chapter five,the basic vocabulary and some grammar characteristics of Pingdong She Dialect have been discussed.Moreover,this chapter also draws a conclusion about the relations of Pingdong She Dialect.The last,Chapter five classifies the types of Cantonese in Shenzhen and demonstrates their phonological features.Chapter six summarizes the conclusions,innovations as well as imperfections of whole thesis.In terms of this study,there are some conclusions:(1)She Dialects is an offensive term used to call the languages of She ethnic minority group in Eastern Guangdong by the Hakka.This term was applied to call other dialects that the locals use in central and northern Guangdong when the Hakka from Eastern Guangdong migrated to these areas;(2)She Dialects refers to Cantonese Dialects,Hakka Dialects,other dialects or languages in different areas;(3)the systems of phonology,vocabulary and grammar in Pingdong She Dialect,apparently,are closer to Cantonese,which is a real evidence that Pingdong She Dialect belongs to Cantonese(Guanbao Cantonese);(4)two types of Cantonese exist in Shenzhen.One type is typical Guanbao Cantonese represented by Nantou Dialect,and the other is Hakka-style Cantonese represented by Pingdong She Dialect,Zhanmi Dialect and Dapeng Dialect.Classifying these two types of Cantonese dependents on a criterion that the contemporary pronunciations of all of the middle voiced plosive and affricate initials now are aspirated or not;(5)Hakka-style Cantonese,which is a mixed type of Cantonese affected and permeated by Hakka Dialects,might turn up during the decades or a century after Yongzheng period.
