A Report On The Translation Of Abstracts In Diversified Development Mode In The New Economic Era

Along with accelerating economic globalization,economic communication between China and the world multiplies.Meanwhile,the amount of academic papers about diversified development mode in the new economy era gradually increases.As an indispensable part of academic paper,abstract condenses the entire thesis and serves as an important channel for thesis search.Translation of abstract not only affects readers’understanding of thesis’s main content,but also directly influences its scholarly communication.However,at present,translation quality of abstract from Chinese to English is not optimistic as inaccurate translation,incomplete information and incoherent text are not uncommon.Therefore,it is imperative to enhance the quality of abstract translation.As a part-time translator in Haoyiyou Translation Company from February 1^st to June 30,2018,the author did a large amount of translation practice from Chinese to English.Among those translation works,there is one typical collection of papers.The company integrates papers which are all on the topic of diversified development mode in the new era in their data bank of the most recent year,and the author is responsible for conducting researches on translation methods of above theses’abstracts.During the translation process,the author encounters some difficulties,mainly reflected in the translation of long sentences,the translation of vital words,the translation of technical terms,and necessary addition and deletion of the source text.Combined with examples,detailed analysis is conducted from three main forms in translation shifts:structural shifts,class shifts and unit shifts.Structural shifts are adopted through reconstruction of sentences to adapt the translation to abstracts’language expression;class shifts are adopted through shifts among words like verbs,nouns,adjectives and adverbs in the original text to improve the accuracy of translation;and unit shifts are adopted through shifts among words,phrases,and sentences to enhance the coherence of the translation.Through the translation practice,the author realizes the necessity of combining theory and practice,as well as the importance of distinguishing characteristics of Chinese and English.Due to the particularity of abstract,its translation should be accurate,coherent and concise.Based on conveying information of the original text,abstract translation should be in accordance with the reading habit of target readers.On the whole,the author’s translation ability has been improved a lot through the translation practice.
