For the question “how to teach English grammar”,different people have different opinions.Nowadays,awareness-raising approach,as an English grammar teaching method,has its great significance.Some studies have showed that this approach can attract the learners' awareness to the target language forms,help them to link the language forms with meanings,and help them to do conscious learning activities.The real goal of this approach is not only to help teacher teach grammar,but to help learners develop the awareness of grammar.This thesis explores the effectiveness and feasibility of awareness-raising approach used in English grammar teaching through the teaching experiment.On the basis of the study of the literature,three main research questions are studied in this thesis:1.Is the English grammar teaching based on awareness-raising approach more effective in improving students' grammar learning in junior high school?2.What are the effects on students by applying awareness-raising approach to English grammar teaching in junior high school?3.What are the effects on teachers by applying awareness-raising approach to English grammar teaching in junior high school?The thesis has adopted the combination of the instruments of questionnaire,test and interview.The research is conducted in two classes in the first grade of Hongxing middle school.The number of the students in each class is 35.One is the experimental class and the other is the controlled class.Before the experiment,the questionnaire is prepared for the students to get to know the basic information of their grammar learning,and the pre-test is prepared for them to get to know the level of their grammar learning.The results of the pre-test indicate that the levels of the students' grammar learning in two classes are very close to each other.During the experiment of English grammar teaching,the awareness-raising approach is used in the experimental class,while the traditional approach is applied in the controlled class.The time for this experiment lasts for four months.After one semester,a post-test is designed for two classes to check whether the achievements the students get in the experimental class are much better than the students in the controlled class or not.Then thequestionnaire is designed for the students in the experimental class and the interview is also designed for the teacher for further accurate results.The results are analyzed by SPSS 24.0 and several findings can be got: firstly,the awareness-raising approach which can be more effective in improving students' grammar learning in junior high school;secondly,this approach can raise the students' interests of English grammar learning;and finally,this approach can release teachers' stress in their teaching.The thesis consists of six chapters.First,the thesis gives a presentation of the background,purpose,significance and structure of the research.Secondly,it presents the literature review of the researches on awareness-raising approach abroad and at home,and gives the presentation of theoretical foundation.Then,the methodology of this approach is introduced.After that,it discusses the results and the findings.Finally,the thesis mentions the implications in pedagogy,limitations and suggestions.
