| The form that language takes is merely the vehicle for expression. In the process of translation, qualified translators need to break away from the form that the source language takes, and instead explore the meaning of the source language and realize an effective way of transmitting its meaning.Effectively deverbalizing the source language during the translation process enables translators to achieve better translation results. In this thesis, the author performed a case study to analyze the translator’s failures and successes on the Chinese-to-French interpretation at the first global 5G communication technology mock conference, and to summarize the feasible strategy of the deverbalization in consecutive interpretation.Based on the transcription and analysis of the corpus of this case, the author found that the main manifestations of the translator’s failures to deverbalize the original language in the process of translation were: the focus on words, the lack of manifesting the logic of the original text, and the poor treatment of long Chinese sentences. In order to rectify the above problems, the author combined the experience from predecessors and his own practice to summarize the corresponding strategies in Chinese-French interpretation: interpreting the words in context, adding a supplementary interpretation of the original text, sorting out the subject-subordinate relationship of long sentences to achieve a reorganized translation, and integrating and refining the information of the original language to enhance its logic. With this thesis, the author hopes that it can benefit translators to improve the deverbalization of the source language and improve the quality of translation. |
