Qi Jiguang,in most people’s mind, his basic image has been defined as a brave and heroic national hero of the Ming Dynasty, and his name often flourishes as a military strategist, which makes most people insist on his impression of a warrior. But a comprehensive analysis should be performed on a person. We can’t ignore that Qi Jiguang’s works include poems in addition to military books;he not only defended the country, but also produces literary works. So this article focuses on Qi Jiguang’s poetry collection "Zhizhitangji",starting from the genre and subject matter of the poetry, trying to have a more comprehensive analysis of Qi’s works, and also to promote readers’ to understand his biography and personality. The full text is analyzed chapter-by-chapter based on the original sub-volumes of Zhizhitangji.Firstly,I prepare to start with Qi Jiguang’s biographical background and make a brief understanding of his whole life.Articles are often written in time, and poetry is often written for something important. To figure out several important points in Qi Jiguang’s life can help us understand his poetic connotation better. After that,I plan to sort out the issue of the edition of Zhizhitangji. The Zhizhitangji is divided into three volumes, the upper, middle and lower volumes. One of the Hengshugao is a poetry. The another one of is practical writings. What’s more,Yuyugao includes many different kinds of works, such as notes, novels, travels, epitaphs and so on.Qi Jiguang’s works are abundant in subject, but the total number of articles is not large,so it is reasonable to classify and analyze by volume. The first part of the Hengshuogao is Qijiguang’s poetry. These context of poems covers a wide range of experiences. So I have to pick up the representative poems for analysis, which includes love poems, farewell poems, military poems, poems about history, poems about nature, and so on.I also analyze the styles and characteristics of his poems from three aspects: narrative, allusions and Buddhist thoughts.Otherwise,I collected 4 poems from other books, which may lose out of the long history. The second and last part of Hengshuogao are practical articles. Therefore I choose three aspects of articles to analyze his write purposes. The three aspects arechronicle articles, funeral orations and prefaces.Chronicle articles can reflect Qi Jiguang’s personal life experience and private values best.Although the contents of the Yuyugao are mixed, some articles of this book can show writer’s private values clearly.Previous studies mainly focused on the literary values of Qi Jiguang’s poems, but ignored the social values of his articles. Therefore, this article analyzes Qi Jiguang’s Confucian pursuit of the ideological tendency contained in typical articles.Even though the second volume is mostly about ghost stories.it reflects that in the Ming dynasty the novel is very popular and has a high acceptance by the public.Scholars have gradually begun to create novels. But Qi Jiguang’s creation of ghost tales has his inherent reasons.Regardless of whether to use karma to persuade people to do good,or to facilitate the management of the army from a religious perspective,Qi Jiguang is based on realistic needs for his creations. In addition to Qi Jiguang’s poems of the Zhizhitangji,Qi Jiguang’s poems are also recorded in chronological order in "Qi Shaobao’s Chronicles".The author selects representative examples to classify the collected essays.Although Qi Jiguang can’t be a brilliant poet in later generations depending on his poetry, his works are diverse in style and rich in subject matters, showing his personal ambitions and high-quality feelings from all angles. We should pay more attention to Qi Jiguang’s literary works and explore his literary influence. This article collects several poems about Qi Jiguang by poets of the Korean kingdom. It shows that he not only had a certain influence in the Chinese literary world at that time, but also attracted attention in North Korea and Japan. Therefore the vision of this study can be extended to the whole east Asia.
