| As an important form of international economic cooperation, international bidding plays an increasingly important role in world trade and economic activities. The quality of tender translation directly affects the interests and responsibilities of later cooperation. Therefore, how to accurately transmit the information between different languages and texts and promote the bidding activities to proceed effectively and quickly has become the primary problem to be solved in the translation of bidding documents. The professional nature of the invitation to bid,the variety of industry terms and the long and complicated sentences have greatly increased the difficulty of translating such texts. The source text,Bidding Document for Well Logging Project of Preliminary Exploration Well in Block X of Country X”(Chapter 4),comes from the Language Service Project of Xi ’an Shiyou university(Project No.201561000 2002171).Guided by the functional equivalence theory, the report studies the characteristics of the text, vocabulary and sentence, summarizes the problems, and discusses the methods and strategies in the translation. The report is mainly composed of five parts. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly introduces the translation background, research significance and the structure of the report. The second chapter is a literature review, which reviews the research on petroleum English, invitation to bid and engineering contract translation at home and abroad,as well as functional equivalence theory and contract translation under its guidance. The third chapter briefly introduces the translation process, mainly including the main work before, during and after the translation. The fourth chapter illustrates the problem-solving in the translation.Based on the characteristics of the original text,it discusses the specific problems encountered in translation, such as how to translate archaic words, modal verbs, terms, passive sentences, etc.from the lexical and syntactic levels respectively. It also discusses the translation of the text under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. The fifth chapter summarizes the experience and problems in this translation practice. It is expected that this translation report can provide a way to understand the problems and experiences in the translation of bidding documents, provide reference for better solving the problems encountered in the translation of such documents, and help the international development of the petroleum industry. |
